To Jump

"To Jump" in kanji. Japanese calligraphy art by Nao.

To Jump

chō, to-bu, ha-neru

This character depicts a foot and a crack. Both haneru and tobu mean “to jump” or “to hop.”

You can include other words that have similar meaning. For example, to vault is one of them.

A vaulting box is tobibako. Bako is a voiced sound of hako meaning a box. To do the vaulting boxes is tobibako wo tobu.” Have you ever done it? Japanese kids do it at school. I borrowed this photo from Wikimedia.
