To Teach

oshi-eru, oshi-e, kyō

The verb oshieru means to teach. If somebody says to you, oshiete,” you are asked to teach them something.

The noun oshie is what you have learned from somebody or your experience.

Kyōshi is a teacher. If you are a teacher and introduce yourself as a teacher, say kyōshi” rather than sen sei.”

Religion is shūkyō. Monotheism is is shinkyō.” Polytheism is ta shinkyō.”

Here are some religions in alphabetical order.

  • Buddhism is bukkyō.
  • Christianity is kirisutokyō.
  • Confucianism is jukyō.
  • Hinduism is hinzūkyō.
  • Islam is isuramukyō or kaikyō.
  • Judaism is yudayakyō.
  • Taoism is kyō.
  • Zoroastrianism is zoroasutākyō.

  2. Draw the vertical stroke crossing the previous stroke.
  3. Draw the horizontal stroke touching the previous stroke.
  4. Draw the sweeping stroke crossing the previous stroke.
  5. Draw the hook. The first part is a horizontal stroke. The second part is a sweeping stroke.
  6. Draw the curve with an upward turn.
