Calendar

koyomi, reki

Our calendar is the solar calendar, which can be translated as “tai reki.” But we call it karendā and write it in katakana. The lunar calendar is tai inreki or inreki.”

Koyomi means a calendar. Since it is a classical word, it refers to the lunar calendar. The common expression is koyomi no uedewa …,” which means “on the lunar calendar.” On the lunar calendar, it is spring now (Koyomi no uedewa mou haru desu).

The year of Christ or AD is seireki.
